My kids are doing math for at least 30 mins every morning, so right after I start them on their math work, I will turn on Christian music in the background.

I once heard of a pastor’s wife who always said, “I see the moon and the moon sees me. God bless the moon and God bless me” every time she saw the moon with her kids. I know I tend to think every time I look at the blue sky or clouds, “Isn’t the sky beautiful? Thank you Lord for always painting a different picture there every day.” Just some more examples of tiny prompts and habits. When I was growing up, my dad would always tell me when he tucked me in, “Don’t forget to say your nighttime prayers.” It was an external prompt, but I prayed that God would help me remember before my dad told me, and the next night (and I think every night thereafter till now) he always did. So pray for God’s help in establishing these tiny little habits too. They are important to God too, so he’ll answer yes. ?

YES! That’s the kind of prayer he delights in saying YES to!

I like that prompt! You could make it even more specific by saying “I will set up the coffee maker right after I close her door” – I learned that tying it to a super specific action can help. Then, if it doesn’t quite work, you can tweak the prompt.

I set my clock to 5am, in the morning, once I get out of bed I walk to the bathroom wash my face and brush my teeth then I sit at my desk and spend some time with the Lord by doing my devotion just me in Jesus for about one hour. Then I go shower.

Just a question, how do you fit your own personal devotional time with a 4 yr. old, 18 mo. Old & 3 mo old & the 3 month old still waking up at night? Any good advice or times for that?

Amber, that is definitely a tough stage of life! A mom told me yesterday that when she got up to feed her baby, she would pray. Or you could listen to a Bible app, or read a devotional.

But also, please don’t beat yourself up about it. Ask God for insight, but remember that he is present whether you have an official devotional time or not. Playing worship music at breakfast or reading the Bible with your kids totally “counts” and will build your faith during this exhausting time. I used to feel like such a bad Christian because my babies made me so tired that if I picked up the Bible, I’d fall asleep! So I started to listen to the Bible while I did chores. Actually, that reminds me – I wrote an article on this! https://littleshootsdeeproots.com/encourage/getting-into-the-word/

At bedtime, after reading stories, we will pray one Bible verse over and with our boys. I would like to create a morning habit too and I am still thinking on what I can manage.

Awesome!!! I pray that God uses this little habit to grow deep roots in your kids. Morning habits could be even simpler, like a hug and “God loves you” or the same Bible verse. I used to say “may the God of peace, who himself is your peace, be with you today” as my kids jumped out of the van.
