There are so many books in the Christian world about training your child in faith. Most of them are great, but most of them are also written from the perspective of one family, and they are sharing what worked for them. However, as with many other things in life, what works for one family might not work for another!

Enter: Sacred Pathways

Sacred Pathways: Discover Your Soul’s Path to God (Amazon link) by Gary Thomas is such a refreshing read. It reminds us that we are not all made the same! You and I likely experience God in different ways based on our spiritual temperament.

Our children also experience God in different ways. Like us, children do not all have the same temperament. In fact, my kids might not even connect with God in the same way I do.

This is where so many other books fall flat. They tell you that “this is the best way” to ensure that your child knows God. Really, learning apologetics might not be helpful at all to your child’s faith. Maybe instead of apologetics your child needs beauty and music to depend his faith. Or maybe your tradition centres on exuberant acts of worship, but your child is a contemplative person who connects with God better while sitting and staring at a leaf.

Jesus is the only way to God, but he meets us on the road and walks our own pathway with us, whatever that might be.
