Earlier this year, I met Mike Nawrocki (co-creator of Veggie Tales) at a children’s ministry conference in Florida. I had seen his Dead Sea Squirrels books before, and knew my 10-year-old son would find them hilarious. (They’re about Jesus-era squirrels who get dehydrated near the Red Sea, then then rehydrated by the son of an archaeologist in modern times. Antics abound!) So I grabbed a set and had them signed.

On that same trip, I discovered that Minno was creating an entire tv series to go along with the books! I crammed the set of 12 books into my suitcase to bring them home (across the continent), and sure enough, my son read them all in a week.
When the Dead Sea Squirrels series came out on Minno, we eagerly waited for episodes to drop on Fridays, making some popcorn and curling up in front of the TV to chuckle together.
While it can be tough to find positive books and TV for our kids, there’s actually a lot out there right now…if you know where to look.

One place I highly recommend looking is the Minno streaming service. They ONLY carry faith and family focused content that’s completely safe for your kids. There are shows for toddlers, all the way up to late-elementary kids like my son.
And it’s not just the same old Veggie Tales! Minno is incredibly innovative and comes up with their own shows, including the Young David series, Micah’s Super Vlog, and the Laugh and Grow Bible series (which is based on their award-winning Laugh and Grow Bible for Kids).
I find most of their shows to be lighthearted and kid-friendly while still helping kids grow in the understanding and outworking of their faith.
Another thing I’m really loving is that their content comes out in multiple formats! Not only is Micah’s Super Vlog a funny show, but it’s also a book series! And, while I ADORE the music in the Young David series, the story really comes to life in book format. Having books to match your child’s favorite TV series is a fabulous way to get them into reading!

The Laugh and Grow Bible for Kids is actually my favorite children’s Bible right now, because, not only it is a fabulous introduction to the Bible stories, but it also EXPLAINS the meaning of the stories. It doesn’t stop at the facts! Plus, it has conversation starters and prayers for families who are reading together. And it really does make you laugh at times. 🙂
The Laugh and Grow Bible ALSO has a parallel TV show on Minno. This short show is excellent for family devotions or a Sunday School class.
Ok, so this wasn’t so much a review as a RAVE review, but I can’t help it – I love what Minno is doing!
And, if you’d like a 7-day free trial of their TV shows, use this link.
